The Arrogance Of Corruption
New York State Govenor Elliott Spitzer has added his name to the list of corrupt politicians after being busted by the feds on a variety of charges related to his escapades with a prostitute. He offered his resignation today. This situation, as sad as it is for Mr. Spitzer's family, is a reflection of serious problems in our nation.
Where do we begin? Richard Nixon resigned the Presidency after covering up illegal actions by his re-election staff. Congressman Duke Cunningham of California is in jail for bribery charges. Texas Senator Trent Lott quit after allegations of his involvement with the Jack Abramoff lobbyist scandal. Former Florida Congressman Tom Foley is another who stepped down after it was revealed he was soliciting congressional pages for illicit sex.
Then there are those who are still with us. The most corrupt of all, Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, has been constantly re-elected despite the fact that he was responsible for the death of a young woman in a drunk driving accident. Washington DC Mayor Marion Berry has been returned to office after his conviction on cocaine charges. Of course we cannot ignore President Bill Clinton, who remained in office after lying to congress and being deprived of his license to practice law?
Other figures involved in scandals and corruption include Congressman William Jefferson, who had $90,000 in cash from bribes stashed in his freezer. Congressman Alicea Hastings, still serving in spite of the fact that he is the only federal judge ever to be removed from his office. How about former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who was committing adultery while his wife was in the hospital. Senator David Vitter of Louisiana had his name exposed with regards to the famous Mayflower Madam's little black book of clients.
Of more recent vintage is former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whose flagrant affair and misuse of city funds caused his presidential campaign to implode. Nor should we forget his former NYC Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who lost out on a chance to head the Department of Homeland Security and will soon be on trial for a variety of corruption charges. Then there is Wisconsin Senator Larry Craig, busted in a men's room for soliciting homosexual sex.
Even the three leading Presidential candidates are not immune. Senator John McCain was involved with the Keating Five banking scandal back in the 1980's. Senator Barack Obama has had ties to a shady racketeer named Tony Rezko as well as black racist Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakan. As for New York Senator Hillary Clinton, both she and her husband have had multiple charges of corruption hurled at them, most notably the Whitewater Banking scandal. Perhaps many of us look at these situations and think, generously, that we all have our failings and there but for the grace of God go I. While that may be true, it is certainly a little more than human failings that have caused these events. These individuals are not deprived and poor. They are not lacking the material comforts of life, and they enjoy great prestige and power. They have been entrusted with the opportunity to serve the nation. In effect, they have every reason to not allow themselves to become ensnared in such activities.
Still, they happen and we need to ask ourselves why, and we first of all, need to recognize the part we play in all this. None of these people should ever be re-elected, and yet we do just that. The following quote from President James Garfield explains it quite well.
"The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities..."
There is however, much more to the story. The two major parties have accumulated too much power, and the old saying, "That power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is what we are seeing. The elites that run the two parties have pulled off the perfect scam. They have convinced "we the people" that they alone possess the necessary wisdom, knowledge, and experience to govern. They have promoted the lie that we have no other choice, nowhere else to go. With this attitude prevailing, the have become invulnerable, no longer fearing the will of the people, ignoring the Constitution and rule of law, indeed, thinking themselves above the law! After all, don't we always seem to vote the lesser of two evils, always hoping for the different result that is impossible to gain by doing the same thing over and over?
Why do we tolerate these corrupt elites? What are we afraid of? Why do we fall for the myth they espouse about how we must vote for them? Have we somehow forgotten that we are the rightful owners of this nation, that it is our birthright? Will we ever get up the courage to do something totally different in order to salvage freedom? Is it ever going to be the right time to reclaim the inheritance that has been stolen from us, and if yes, exactly when is that time?
We should be asking ourselves these questions, and we should come to the conclusion that now is the time, this is the election! We simply cannot allow this theft to continue and we should not allow the elites who are running the show to accrue any more power! We must bring this reign of corruption to an end, and the best way to do that is to start right at the top.
In this election, we must deny the elites the Presidency! It is the only way to get their attention. Only an independent President with no ties to any party machine, any PACs or corporations, any unions or money grubbing lobbyists can stand up and represent the American people first. It will not happen if we once again vote the lesser of two evils and hand the two major parties more power.
This great nation is our country, our HOME, and the legacy we will pass on to our kids and grandkids. What is it going to take to reject the lies put out by the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines? Don't we even care about the founding principles that made America great and produced an unheard of freedom that no other nation had ever attained? If you give this some honest, hard thought, you must come to the conclusion that the future can no longer be entrusted to these elites. They have proved themselves incompetent and unworthy! Then, you must make the decision to act!Remember the old marriage ceremony custom where the minister asks the congregation present the following: If any person have reason as to why these two should not be wed, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.
Well, we have come to that point in our nation's history. We either stand up for freedom and honor, and reclaim the inheritance the elites have stolen from us, OR, we once again vote them back into power and relinquish control and end this adventure in self-government. Are you going to do something or allow the elites to run the show? This quote from Thomas Jefferson is on the homepage of this website, right up front, top center. Please give it your consideration.
"The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite."
