This campaign was started because the atmosphere in our nation's capital has become that of pure partisanship, and leadership has been ignored by both the Democrat and Republican parties. The reason for this is because both parties have convinced the American people that they are the only ones capable of governing and that there are no other choices. Since they therefore have no fear of being held accountable, they have pursued power for power's sake, creating the partisanship that is failing to meet the nation's needs.
The American people have been duped into believing this myth. Always hoping for the best, which is an indomitable part of our national character, we have voted over and over again for these same people, voting not for conscience sake but as a choice of the lesser of two evils. Although we hope for a different result with each passing election, we quickly find out that once again the politicians do as they please and seek to further their own agenda. We have been tricked into selling our birthright to these elites for entitlements and pork barrel spending while they openly and with great disdain, ignore the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people!
The intent of this campaign is to offer the American people a choice and an opportunity in the 2008 Presidential election. The choice is a candidate not of either party, not loyal to any political machine, PAC, corporation, or corrupt lobbyist money. It is the opportunity to restore the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people as the primary principles by which we govern ourselves as a free people, in effect, a chance to reclaim the inheritance granted us by the Founding Fathers. The United States of America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen, and not just in economic and military power. Morally, America has been the leading force in the world for freedom for each person to reach their own potential , to choose their own way, and to worship God as they see fit.
This election is rare in that there is no candidate running who was the Vice-President of the outgoing administration. The struggle for power is now so intense, that although we are nine months (May '07) away from any primaries, there are debates being held, millions of dollars raised, and 20 or so candidates from both major parties running. If we fail to seize this chance and elect another elite Democrat OR Republican to the Presidency in 2008, the partisanship will only continue. It is a guarantee of more big government and a continuing decline in personal freedom.
Hence, this campaign was begun to reverse these trends and restore the principles mentioned above. As a candidate, I offer the following points as the basis of my campaign platform.
1. One of the first things to be done is to abolish the Department of Education, which has wasted billions of dollars and totally failed our children. Today, America's young people trail behind many of the other industrial nations in academic achievement, and it is getting worse. A total re-evaluation of our educational system is in order. (For more on this topic, please go here.)
2. To properly restore the principles of federalism to our government, I will call for a meeting of the 50 Governors of the states to devise and implement a plan to return as much decision making power as possible to the state/local level. The federal government has involved itself in our private affairs well beyond any reasonable measure of its authority and usurped the rights of the people and the states. This trend must be reversed if freedom is to flourish. (For more information about this, please go here.)
3. Institute a first year budget reduction of 10% for all federal agencies and departments except for Defense and Homeland Security, with follow up reductions for the succeeding three years of 3% per year. Defense and Homeland Security must be looked at differently, and any reductions in those two areas carefully scrutinized. Overall, government spending is out of control, and if any of us were to conduct our finances in the same manner as the federal government, we would be either broke, in jail, or both. (For more of a discussion on this complicated topic,,please go here.)
4. Withdraw all U.S. troops from Japan, South Korea, and Europe. These nations all have strong economies and should pay the bill for their own self- defense both in money and in manpower. The United States should not and cannot be the world's policeman. We need to be engaged with the rest of the world, but all nations need to be accountable for their own actions which should not be dictated by the U.S. (For more on this issue, as well as points 5, 6, 7, and 8 following, please go here.)
5. Reduce U.S. contributions to the United Nations to an amount equal to the lowest amount being contributed by either the European Union, Russia, China, or Japan. The U.N. has continually engaged in anti-American propaganda while subsisiting on American money. American sovereignty should not be held hostage to the internationalist cabal that permeates the U.N. We can be friends while retaining our independence.
6. Officially withdraw the United States from any and all international treaties that are in opposition to the Constitution, U.S law, and U.S. interests. This will definitely include the North American Union idea negotiated by President Bush with Canada and Mexico, as well as The Law of the Sea Treaty and the Kyoto Treaty.
7. In cases of so-called free trade agreements, they are all to be reviewed and, if necessary, re-negotiated if found to be one sided in favor of the other country. The world is today much more inter-connected than could have ever been imagined 100 years ago. There is a global economy emerging, but that global economy cannot be allowed to run rampant, inflicting more damage to hard working American families. 8. Perform a total, all inclusive review of U.S. foreign aid programs. The goal would be the elimination those that are wastefully administered by the recipients, go to nations that are not friends of the U.S., or do not serve the national interests of America. U.S. foreign aid should be formulated and administered in a manner that carefully benefits the people rather than lining the pockets of their rulers.
9. Close the southern border with Mexico and begin an intensive enforcement of illegal hiring by large U.S. businesses and corporations first. Hopefully, small businesses will get the message quickly and will "fire" all illegals. If not, they will suffer the same fate as the big corporations. The illegal immigration problem is no longer a matter of a few desperate individuals seeking to escape poverty. It has become an invasion, a threat to our historical way of life and and burden on our economy. (For more on this topic, please go here.)
10. Veto any legislation from congress that enacts, advocates or funds any activities clearly in conflict with the dictates of the Constitution and the principles of federalism. (For more on the role of the President, go here.) 11. Appoint as judges to the Supreme Court individuals of strong character who are loyal to the original intent of the Constitution.
12. Utilize the power of prime time TV to regularly communicate to the American people exactly what we are doing, why we are doing it, and what their responsibility is in seeing to it that congress does not obstruct these efforts. We, the American people, are the rightful owners of this nation, but with that ownership comes responsibility. We must exercise our authority if we are going to preserve freedom for future generations. (More of a discussion about this is here.)
