Funding Bill To The President For His Veto

The combined House/Senate troop funding supplemental bill has been sent to President Bush who everyone knows is going to veto it.  The amount of money the President asked for was $100 billion, but as stated in my previous troop funding post, the congress loaded it up with an additional $24 billion for various pork projects.   This final combined however goes even further.  It calls for the beginning of troop withdrawals by October 2007, and a complete withdrawal by April 1, 2008.

This addition of a timetable is being done solely for the purpose of embarrassing the President and allowing the Democrats to claim cover.  With his veto, congress will be able to say that it's the President's fault that there isn't money to fund the troops.  Somehow, this is supposed to be a way to also placate the anti-war element of the Democrat party, but though it may make them happy, most Americans see it for what it is.

During the week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was claiming the war to be lost, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi couldn't make time in her busy schedule to be on hand for a briefing by General Petraeus about the current conditions on the ground in Iraq.  Yet, both of these individuals loudly proclaim to be supporting the troops.  You have to wonder then, why they submitted the spending bill as written.  If they support the troops, then why not just get the money to them.

The real problem is that the Democrats really do believe that the war is already lost, that the surge is not showing any signs of progress, and there is no movement on the political front.  All these things are not true however, but they have painted themselves into this corner and are now trying to be both for the troops and against the war.  As I have asked before, if they are against the war and believe it to be lost, the right thing to do in supporting the troops is to cut off funds and force the President to begin withdrawing immediately.  That is something they do not want to do because the failure of American military power in Iraq would be a catastrophe and they know it and do not want to take responsibility for such a fisaco.

I have been saying continually throughout this website that the two parties, having rigged the election process to assure themselves a lock on power, have abandoned all pretense of principled leadership and resorted to pure partisan politics for the sake of even more power.   No matter how you look at it, the truth of that is plain as day.  If we continue to elect these same elite partisans to office, we are in effect surrendering our responsibility and authority as the rightful owners of this nation to a group of people who do not give a damn about anything except their own power, fame, and wealth!  You had better believe that, because the decline in respect for the Constitution and rule of law continues unabated.
Americans need to realize that this great nation does not belong to these elites, it belongs to all of us!  When oh when are we going to reclaim that inheritance?  I ask you, when are you going to do something?
