 Michigan,the 2 Parties, and You

Well, this primary is over, and the winners were Mitt Romney on the Republican side, and Hillary Clinton on the Democrat's side.  For Romney, this was billed as a must win given that it is his home state and his father, George Romney, was a popular three term Governor here.  As for Senator Clinton, she won basically by default as she was the only "top tier" candidate.

John McCain showed a strong second place finish which was the least he could do given that he won handily here eight years ago.  His campaign hoped for a greater turnout of independents, but apparently, harsh weather kept many voters home.  Mike Huckabee was an unsurprising distant third place.  Ron Paul did ok, better than Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani.

The real story of the Michigan primary however, is not where the candidates finished.  Those results are only a small part of the total picture of the nominating process.  Actually, the real story about the winners and losers is about  the two major parties, the Democrats and Republicans, who were the big winners, and  you, the American voter, who was the big loser!  In case you weren't paying attention, here's the scoop.

Senator Clinton won the Democrat's primary unopposed by both Senators Obama and Edwards, but she will not receive any delegates.  The reason is that because the state moved up its primary date in opposition to the  National Party's rules, the state was punished and will not have any delegates at the national convention.  That is why both Obama and Edwards skipped this one.  The Republicans were almost as mean spirited, but they only stripped the state of half its delegates.  Since the GOP race is wide open, everyone tried, even if the delegates were one half of what they should have been.

Perhaps you think because Michigan is a small state with only a few delegates anyway, why get all in a dither about it.  The issue here however, is not about delegate counts and which candidate from each party is going to win the nomination.  The real point of this is that which I have been warning my readers about for many months now.

The two parties care about power above all things, and they have literally rigged the election process to assure themselves continued power.  When the State of Michigan decided to move its primary up to January 15 from early February, it upset the plans of the elites to manage that process.  The two major parties have absolutely no interest in having the citizens and voters of this great country do something they do not approve of!  They will manage the election process for the sole purpose of keeping power in their hands, and "we the people" can go to hell if we don't like it.

The fact is that the two parties are growing stronger with every election, shutting out independents and the rightful owners, of this nation, you and me, from the decision making.  They are limiting the input of ideas of which they do not approve and preventing innovation and creativity from flourishing because those things are a threat to their power.  Even the candidates feared to go against the might and power of the party.  If they were not afraid and had any real courage, they would have demanded of their respective party that it accede to the wishes of the people.  They have no courage however, and they do not represent you.  They represent themselves and have sold their souls to the party for the chance to share in the power and gain wealth and fame.

It cannot be said too often that if we continue to give more power to the two major parties, we will eventually lose our freedoms, and the great and honorable American ideal of self-government will be become a failure.  The elites speak so smoothly that we do not even realize how they falsely give to us on the one hand entitlements and pork barrel spending that they fund with our own money, and with the other hand they take away rights that are ours by virtue of the fact that we exist as independent individuals.

The hypocrisy of it all is staggering, and yet so many still believe in voting the lesser of two evils, of once again doing the same thing, somehow expecting a different result. You can watch the debates and hear all the finely spoken words about what good things the elites will do for you, but you will never be able to escape the trap that has been set unless and until you see the propaganda for what it really is.

Yes, the Michigan primary is a small one, and the delegate count  won't really matter in the final nominating process, mainly because the candidates who will be offered to you in November do not really matter.  The only real concern in this is best described by Thomas Jefferson. You can read those words on the home page of this website, right at the top, dead center.  I cannot say it any better than this wise and great patriot did.
