Mud Wrestling Season Begins

If you have been to my website previous to today and read what I had to say on the page titled "
Who's Qualified", you might recall that I mentioned to you that the politics of personal destruction would soon be here.  That prediction has now been fulfilled!

The first real salvo was thrown out in last week's Democrat debate, when Senator Clinton cleverly rebuked John Edwards by claiming that she could take the heat in the kitchen, but didn't particularly appreciate the mudslinging.   With our elite politicians, it simply never ends.  This weekend, two more pieces of mud emerged, one involving a supposed setup by a polling group to attack Mitt Romney's Mormon faith.  The speculation is that this ploy was devised inorder to give Mr. Romney a chance to rebuke the bigots and take the topic of his religion off the table.

These two items however, are minor and pale before the latest bombshell from big shot Washington insider Bob Novak.  Mr. Novak is a long time member of the elite mainstream media, and widely respected I suppose.  That is why his latest news story  is important.  Of course, the subject matter elevates this one way above the
average. In his column, Mr.Novak claims that someone in Mrs. Clinton's campaign related to him that the Clinton campaign had some really scandalous dirt on Senator Obama.  Now the Clinton campaign is denying that it said any such thing or that they actually have dirt on Senator Obama.  They claim that it a dirty trick by some Republicans to start a fight between the Clinton and Obama camps.  For his part, Senator Obama has spoken out to defend his honor and related to all that he is proud of his past and will defend his personal character.

It should not be surprising that these types of personal attacks are now starting to appear.  It is only 45 days to the first primary in Iowa, and the stakes for the power that goes with the Presidency are not small.  What we are seeing is the beginning of much more filth and trash designed to tear down opponents.

Perhaps the worst offender in this tawdry episode however, is Mr. Novak himself.  This famous elite reporter not too long ago created all kinds of controversy and generated a lot of anger when he released the name of Valerie Plame to the public.  The wife of  former top government official Joe Wilson was employed by the CIA, in, according to her, a covert status.  The outing of her name was attributed to either Vice-President Dick Cheney, or his chief of staff, Scooter Libby as revenge for a report by Mr. Wilson that he gave to the CIA concerning Saddam Hussein's attempt to purchase yellow cake uranium in the African nation of Niger.  In the resulting case that emerged from the disclosure, Scooter Libby was found guilty of perjury.  Mr. Novak however, never bothered to publish the complete truth, that he had heard Valerie Plame's name from Richard Armitage, a former deputy Secretary of State.

Now, in a similar act of  foolish reporting, Mr. Novak says that he will not reveal what he knows or who told him.  Apparently, promoting rumors and creating distrust is much more fun than telling the truth.  If there are serious questions about Senator Obama that are relevant to his run for the Presidency, then Mr. Novak should tell us about them.  Or, if the Clinton campaign is lying, then he should  reveal that!  Perhaps Mr. Novak simply delights in spreading confusion.  That is a common tactic of the DEM/GOP/MSM elites in order to keep us uninformed.

This entire episode stinks badly, but then again, so does the whole rotten and corrupt power structure that the elites in Washigton have created.  They are all hypocrites who seek power only and certainly look with disdain upon the ordinary citizens of this great country.  How much longer we are going to put up with their phony act is a question we need to answer.  How can we believe anything they say?  How can we possibly vote for any of them in 2008?
