Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote was never lost.

MY GUESS CONCERNING THE NOMINEES

As of April '07

Democrat - Clinton           Republican - McCain

As of May 20, 2007

I think McCain is now out because of his sponsoring
of the new and highly unpopular Immigration bill
The Republican media are pushing non-candidate
Fred Thompson, while Rudy Giuliani has not rallied
a lot of support.  Mitt Romney is gaining recognition and has moved up in the polls.  Let's see what happens.

Democrat - Clinton    Republican - Open

As of September 17, 2007

Fred Thompson is now in, but a lot has come to light about him that is not popular with conservative Republicans. Romney is hoping on Iowa to boost his standing, McCain looks better since the surge in Iraq has shown promise.  Giuliani jumped on Clinton's negative remarks about Petraeus and that has added  to his appeal.  Dark horse Ron Paul has a small but vociferous following.

T
here  has been some movement on both sides lately.  Although Hillary Clinton blew the licenses for illegals question in the debate, she is still ahead.  Obama gained a little but has not jumped out strongly.
On the GOP side, Giuliani scored big today with the Pat Robertson endorsement.  Ron Paul has been making a lot of noise by raising substantial amounts of money and has a vociferous following. Romney is spending a lot of his own money to win Iowa and New Hampshire, two contests he must win to catapult himself  to the top
Thompson, although strong,  hasn't taken off.

                      AppealForCourage.org

This website was created by service members in Iraq. It is legally recognized by the Department of Defense and is what is known as an Appeal For Redress, which is the only avenue available to military personnel to submit a grievance to Congress.
This appeal speaks to troops request for support from Congress for the mission in Iraq, and can only be signed by current  military members.  It has been signed by over 3,285 individuals since it started.
If you wish to know what these brave warriors think, click on the link above.  Although I have no military training, I support this effort!

The times they are a-changin' for sure.  Senator Clinton has taken a hard hit over her licenses for illegal flip-flop, and Senator Obama stepped in and is now ahead in some critical primaries like Iowa and New Hampshire.  Additionally, it appears that Mrs. Clinton is not so appealing, that the voters are tired of the Clinton/Bush dynasties.
Fomer Senator John Edwards holds the far left postion in the Democrats world, and has been showing some primary strength.
For the Republicans, there has also been great changes.  Mayor Giuliani has nose dived as the more social conservative "value voters" start looking at his record, especially the indictment of former police chief Bernard Kerik.
Governor Huckabee has picked up support from the "christian right" and now looks formidable.  His record however is not impressing a lot of folks.
Meanwhile, Governor Romney has spent a lot of money and has gone on the offensive, particularly when it comes to defending his Mormon faith. With Giuliani and Romney faltering, and Huckabee moving up, a window of opportunity has opened for Senator McCain to get back in the race.
McCain gets a lot of emotional support because of his war record, but many conservatives doubt if he is a true conservative.
The heat of the battle has also opened a window for Congressman Ron Paul, who has a very loud and active base of supporters and he is now in the race as a long shot behind  McCain.

Poll Shows Many Of Us Think That A Third Party President Would Be Good For The Country

Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted a nationwide poll June 26-27 for Fox News.  The results show that a majority of Americans think an independent candidate winning the Presidency in 2008 would be a good thing. Twice as many people thought the idea a good one than thought it bad.  The tally was 45%  good, 19%  bad.

The breakdown by political affiliation was 42% of Democrats, 44% of Republicans, and 56% of independents saying that electing an independent candidate would be good for the country.  In addition, 67% of both Democrats and Republicans say they would actually consider casting a vote for an independent.

Sixtythree percent think an independent cannot win, but a strong 31% believe it a reasonable chance.  V.P. of Opinion Dynamics Lawrence Shiman stated that "It appears that many voters believe a vote for a candidate who has little chance of winning still is not a wasted vote. ... A substantial percentage of both parties are willing to consider supporting independent candidates regardless of the candidate's chances of winning".

As you might suspect, I am pleased about this poll.  It demonstrates that we can reclaim our inheritance by not voting for the lesser of two evils again.
I conducted a small survey over on MySpace on Monday, June 26, 2007 to ask what folks thought the top 5 issues were for 2008.  The sampling was small, but the results were interesting.  The order was:
1.  Immigration
2.  Education
3.  Taxes
4.  Health Care
5.  Foreign Policy

I intend to do one every couple of months or so to see if the issues remain consistent or change.  Stay tuned.
