Walter Reed Medical Center

The exposure of the horrible treatment our troops have been receiving at Walter Reed last week is one that has outraged all of us.  Americans of all political persuasions expect the United States government to take care of those who serve in harms way.  This terrible situation is not only a failure on those terms however.  It also underscores the  deeper problem of partisan politics.

No matter what you think about the Iraq war, this story begs the question; What were our leaders doing all this time?  In self-righteous indignation, the Army Chief Medical Officer and the military commander in charge of the facility have been discharged. Yet, what about the members of the various congressional committees involved, such as Armed Services, Veterans Services, & Appropriations? All are guilty of not being aware, but you can rest assured that none of them will be fired!

     Sen. Carl Levin, appearing on
'Meet the Press' last week, had the gall to say that the reason nothing was done was because the Republicans were in charge up until this year and they did nothing because they didn't want to embarrass the president. Are we to believe then that the senator knew about these conditions but also said nothing because he did not want to embarrass the president either?

All of these elites need to be FIRED in the 2008 election, and THAT IS YOUR JOB!
Any citizen who intends to vote for a Democrat or Republican at that time must ask themselves whether or not they are putting party politics above the needs of the country!
