Senator Barack Obama's Acceptance Speech
After the inspirational tone to the speech was set, Senator Obama was quick to challenge his Republican opponent, Senator John McCain. He did not attack Mr. McCain's honor or integrity, but instead attacked his judgement as a way to try to justify his own positions on many of the issues of the campaign, especially Iraq. He claimed that John McCain has few legislative achievements and must therefore resort to the old "be afraid of the other guy" tactic, also known as "the lesser of two evils", but he looks at his own very brief experience in government as a virtue and implies his opponent is incompetent. He claims that Mr. McCain has been around Washington politics for far too long and is part of the problem, but ignores the fact that his VP Nominee, Joe Biden, has been around even longer.
The Democrat nominee also used the approach of gentlemanly kindness by stating that it wasn't that John McCain doesn't care about the nation or the people, it is simply that Senator McCain just doesn't get it! He is stuck in the old ways of the old politics. This assessment is quite accurate as far as it goes. John McCain has been around for far too long, as has Joe Biden and about 90% of the rest of the members of both houses of congress. What Senator Obama doesn't understand however is that he also doesn't get it!
Barack Obama will not bring to the nation new ideas and new ways of thinking. He will not seek to work with Republicans to bring real solutions to the forefront. Instead, he too, like all the others, offers more of the same old same old: more big government intrusion into our lives, more trust in international organizations like the United Nations, and less respect for the founding principles of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution!
An Obama administration would not be any different from the Democrat administrations of the past. It would be more of the partisan acrimony that has permeated Washington for over 60 years, in both Democrat and Republican administrations! It would be the same fight between so-called liberals and conservatives who offer not intelligent, innovative, and creative ideas for meeting the nation's needs, but the continual promotion of ideological positions based upon party loyalty and power.
The time has come for "we the people", the rightful owners of this nation to stand up and, to use the senator's own words, SAY ENOUGH! We cannot afford to allow the two major parties to continue to accrue ever more power at the expense of the freedom that is the foundation of this great nation we all love. Mr. Obama chided Senator McCain for his campaign logo that states "America first", claiming that John McCain is not the only one who loves this country. That is quite true, but it is also true that there are many millions of folks who also do not think that we need more government! What about that idea Senator Obama?
How much longer are we going to be led around by self-serving politicians and partisans who cannot change their ways? Be assured, that if Barack Obama becomes President of the United States, only two things will change. First, a Democrat will be in the White House instead of a Republican, and second, history will be made as Mr. Obama would be the first black man to attain to the office. Beyond that however will be the same people, the same arrogance, the same way of doing business.
Einstein's definition of insanity bears repeating once again: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. How then can the future of freedom and of our beloved country any longer be entrusted to the Democrats and Republicans? We will be doing the same thing we have always done. To once again vote the lesser of two evils is insane! Think about it. |
