June 12, 2007                      Gun Control

Submitted By: Alice Lillie

I am interested in gun control as I do not condone *any*  gun control *at all*.  What is the use of the right to life, liberty, and property if you can't defend it?

...read your ideas on energy.  I liked quite a lot of your analysis.  I'm not sure about nuclear.  I've read a few articles and opinions on it, such as, it's extremely expensive, a lot of carbon fuel is used in the total process (mining, refining, transportation, building of plants, and I suppose, transportation of waste).  I think I've heard it would take large govt. subsidies to get it going, I'm not sure of that.
And storage of waste?? ....I've asked engineers, other smart tech. people about the idea of moving to nuclear and get differing points of view.  ... We need better and more open discussion about it.

Submitted By: Dick Tryon

Leadership vs. Partisanship is a great point to applaud!  The key is how can you or any leader get through to the voters to make both the election and the governing happen without the people in congress having a personal claim to re-election  - the meat and potatoes of their career  - not yours or mine!!

In response to a comment on my blog that .."the state moved its primary in opposition to National Party rules..",  further stating that the stripping of the people's voice by the party elites was wrong.

Mr. O'Rear said in support of the two parties:

Oh, that was such a promising start, showing that you really do understand why the delegates are not being counted.  What happened? What gives you the notion that the states tell the national organization what to do?

No need to post troops on the border. Simply fine any CEO $100,000.00 per illegal working in his company and attach a 1 year prison term....
Simply enforce the existing laws and stiffen the penalties.

If more people actually took an interest to what other options are available to the American people, the candidates for the US Presidency might not seem to have such an 'in the bag' attitude as they do and some election promises might be fulfilled.  I think I read somewhere that government by consent of the governed is an extinct idea...too bad this is nearly 100% true.

     Submitted By: B. Victor Williams

If I may, I would like to comment on a topic you mentioned but stopped short...

Healthcare service available to elected officials is quite different for the masses...
Elected officials receive, at no cost, an extensive and high quality of healthcare which stays with them even after they are no longer an elected official.  If you want to fix the healthcare system, put elected officials into the same basket as the public (the people they are sworn to protect).  Watch how quickly it gets fixed.

The Framers rejected democracy in favor of a republican form of government.  They trusted "the people" to be able to decide the course of their own lives, but they decidedly did not trust "the people" to choose the course for others....Self-government is just that, it is sovereignty of the individual over himself.  It is not majoriantism!

Wow! I just read your platform...Disbanding the Dept. of  Ed is a great idea.  So is limiting our support of  the UN.  I know that I am totally digusted by today's politicians on both sides of the aisle.  We need a real patriot.
